The motor driver board includes a dual motor driver IC (TB6612FNG) and a 5 volt regulator. The motor driver board is meant to provide an interface between the low power circuitry of the AVR Butterfly and the high current motors. By controlling the Motor inputs and PWM input, you can control the direction and speed of each motor. See the attached data sheet for the TB6612FNG motor driver for an explanation of each input The 5 volt regulator supplies power for the AVR Butterfly and the Line Sensor Board. 2008 Board ERRORS: The 2008 board has an error. The Standby pin of the motor driver IC is left floating. To use the board, you need to short the Standby pin with the VCC. You can do this with a solder bridge between the pins. The Line Following Robot kit includes the motor driver board with the motor driver IC presoldered. SMD soldering is difficult skill so the kit boards were pre-soldered en mass. For the kit, first solder the 5 volt regulator. Cover the heat sink with electric tape, insert the leads into the regulator holes, bend the regulator so it lies flat against the board, and solder the regulator. Next solder the 47uF electrolytic capacitor. Make sure to solder the positive terminal to the + marked whole. Then solder the 9v battery connector and the Female header.
