Starting a robot project from scratch can be tough if you have never built one before and don't have the components on hand. To aid both experienced builders and newbies alike, IEEE Robotics is selling a Line following robot kit. This kit includes all the electronics you need to build a fully functioning line following robot. The only thing you must add is a chassis. These components can be combined quickly and easily to make a line following robot The kit is built around an AVR Butterfly Board. The AVR microcontroller is one of the most popular 8-bit microcontrollers and the board features an LCD, a joystick, a speaker, many IO pins, and 10 ADC inputs. While the components provided build a line following components, they can be adapted to almost any robotics or line following project. Below, is a picture of the fully assembled components in the 2008 line following Robot kit and on the right is the example 2007-2008 Line Follower: The line following kit includes: - 1 AVR Butterfly
- 1 HL USB to Serial Converter
- 2 GM9 motors with wheels from Solarbotics
- 1 Dual Motor Driver + Power supply board
- 1 Line Following Sensor Board
- 1 Serial Cable to AVR Butterfly Cable
- 1 Programming Cable
- 1 9 V Battery
- Female Header
- Associated components for each board
The Price for the first batch of the 2008-2009 IEEE Robotics Line Following Robot Kit is $65. These kits are sold at cost and are cheaper than you could buy the components individually. Check the attached spread sheet to see. Only 10 kits were made. As of writing this article, only 9 are left. Contact Adam Stambler at
